February 2012

A week has passed since the end of the Decorative Winter Fair and the result was much better than we had expected. The opening day was particularly busy. On average 80% of our sales were made to new clients. There was an optimistic and buoyant atmosphere in the tent and it appeared most dealers sold well.

Our stock now needs to be replenished, so we will be off on buying trip in the next couple of weeks. We will keep you posted.

January 2012

Happy New Year to all our clients.

A new year and a fresh start. Preparations for Battersea are in full swing. We have found some interesting pieces of stock by good designers. Here are a few descriptions of items which will be shown on our stand at the www.Decorativefair.com.

An original Bird cage chair by Harry Bertoia dating from 1952. It is made from a grid of chrome plated stainless-steel wire and has been recovered in a red fabric  sympathetic to the original. “Bertoia worked with Charles and Ray Eames at the Evans Products Company, developing techniques for moulding plywood, however after several disagreements over his contract he then began working for Knoll. In 1946 he moved to Pennsylvania to be close to the Knoll factory and within four years he had established his own design and sculpting studio, producing designs such as the very successful innovative wire chairs. Bertoia’s designs not only addressed functional requirements but, like his sculptures, were also studies in form and space.” nb quoted from Design of the 20th century , by Charlotte and Peter Fiel.

Also for sale will be a bronze metal and glass coffee table by Jacques Quinet. Quinet was a French decorator and designer who produced beautiful classically inspired furniture of very high quality. He decorated hotels, offices, universities and was also commissioned by private clients.

We have been lucky to find three stunning ceiling lights, two of which are a pair of very large plaster ceiling lights and a beautiful gilt metal Italian ceiling light by Guglielmo Ulrich. Ulrich’s lights are extremely decorative and have the most beautiful sculptural forms. They are stunning when lit up but also when they are not. Due to their classical feel they can suit almost any interior.

A good selection of mid-century modern paintings will also be on display.

We do hope we will see you at the Decorative Fair. If you have not received one of our invitations, do contact us and we will send one by post or email. This ticket will admit two people to a free entrance.

Marketing the website is an ongoing affair and we have now joined the website www.modernshows.com. By visiting this website you will have access to other 20th century design dealers and be able to view a whole range of vintage and retro furniture, mid-century furniture and modern designs.  For the past year and a half you can also find us listed on www.ffenss.com

December 2011

November is now gone and despite deciding not to take part in this years November Fine Art and Antiques Fair at Olympia, business has been steady. We have been able to spend more time marketing the business and sourcing new stock.

Finding good pieces of stock is proving more and more difficult, however it is the better pieces of objects, lighting and furniture that for us seem to be selling the best. Clients and decorators are maybe buying slightly less but are definitely deciding to choose the top end pieces.  Though initially more expensive to invest in, these items are more likely at  least, to hold their value or at best to increase in value.

The festive season can be a mixed one for dealers. There are so many sales offered in the big retail outlets,  it is naturally tempting to buy the bargains. However for those seeking the individual presents buying from dealers is often the most interesting, exciting and best place to shop.

We have just added a good selection of vases which make beautiful presents. If you are based in London or just outside we will get your purchases delivered on time for Christmas. Do not forget to look at our paintings website as well www.galeriedekerangal.com

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you at the next Battersea Decorative Fair starting on the 24th January 2012

November

A quick trip away has been exciting and resourceful.

Amongst our new purchases are a pair of Mathieu Mategot chairs. A rarely seen model. A fantastic blue glass framed with speckled gold Barovier & Toso table mirror with its original glass. A pair of very good gilded plaster wall lights in the manner of Serge Roche, which would suit both a classic and modern interior. A very elegant pair of armchairs by the American decorator/ designer Harvey Probber.

Other items are in the process of being restored, rewired or reupholstered but will be updated to the site as soon as they are ready.

There has also been added a small selection of affordable objects perfect if you are looking to buy unique presents. Paintings are also being updated onto our paintings website  www.galeriedekerangal.com

October 2011

The Battersea Fair is now over and despite the fabulous weather we made good sales. We showed many paintings to promote our sister website www.galeriedekerangal.com which shows a large collection of paintings from the 19th to the late 20th century. Prices of paintings start from £200 upwards.

The website is now updated with new stock amongst which features a stunning mirrored base Italian dining table, a gilded iron console with a solid yew top. This piece was designed in the 1970′s as a limited edition. We also have a pair of good Jacques Adnet style armchairs recovered in grey velvet and a pair of Mathieu Mategot bedside tables.

Projects at the moment are to refurnish a flat in London, which includes advising on art works and sourcing furniture and lighting to give the flat a more stylish and individual look.

New designs of bespoke furniture will be coming soon and we will keep you updated on our next fair.

August

The trade season is starting up again and we have returned from our buying trip with some interesting pieces of stock.

The Decorative Fair in Battersea Park begins the last week of September and we will be exhibiting at our usual stand there. For more information look at www.decorativefair.com. If you do not receive invitations from us, email us and we will send you an invite.

At the fair we will be selling some items by Mathieu Mategot. Mategot was an important French Designer of the 20th century. His designs were inspired by modernist principles and developed into an individual style by using  different materials such as sheets of steel and pierced metal, coloured with touches of most commonly red, yellow, black and white paint. His designs are witty and elegant. The contribution he made to 1950′s French Design is paramount and today his original pieces and those which are re-editions are extremely sought after.

As usual we offer an interiors consultancy service. Please contact us if you require more information.

June News

June has come round quickly and we have been very busy. We have created a new paintings website www.galeriedekerangal.com which has a large collection of paintings dating from the early 19th to the late 20th century. Known names featured on this site are Dyf, Meninsky, Jacques Emile Blanche, Alson Skinner Clark.

Our bespoke hand made Danish inspired armchairs are selling well and due to this success we have decided to design some more seating. These chairs can be ordered and covered in the clients own fabric if required.

Peter who is qualified to conduct PAT Testing on lights,  can provide a lighting restoration and rewiring service to clients and the trade.

Two very good sideboards are featured on the site. One by Robsjohn – Gibbings and the other is by Jean Charles. We also have a rare example of a coffee table by the Italian architect Ignazio Gardella. If you require more information or better photographs of these pieces please contact us. As usual we always have  a good collection of Barbier table lamps. We have also just added a very good pair of Mathieu Mategot side tables which are referenced in the Mategot book.

If you are looking for anything particular contact us as we can source items.
